Salt Superfluity

The over consumption of salt in the diet is a big concern.  Most people are aware of the health risks associated with excess salt consumption but on average we are still consuming 9g of salt each day – that’s equivalent to 1.5 teaspoons.  A suggested dietary target has been set at 4g of salt for adults, although many people could benefit by consuming even less than this amount.  When considering the amount of salt you consume each day, don’t forget to think about all the added salt in packet and tin foods, sauces, bread, cereals, biscuits and meat products (almost all processed foods contain salt!).

Cutting salt could save 6,000 lives a year in Australia
